Icelandic Junior Masters 2009

Report of Day 1 of the Icelandic Junior Masters 2009

Local boy Andri Mar leads the Boy´s group. A course record for Austria´s Marina Stuetz.

The players at the Icelandic Junior Masters were welcomed to Hella Golf Course with pouring rain, so play had to be postponed for one hour midway through the morning. As the weather conditons got better the scores improved with quite a few players posting consecutive birdies, none more than player of the day Marina Stuetz from Austria who played at -3, 67 strokes, a new course record for the Hella Golf Course, improving an older one from 2002, by one stroke. Three strokes behind Marina is Latvia´s Mara Puisite at level par. At +1 is Iceland´s Signy Arnorsdottir who started the day by injuring a finger who got caught by the closing door of the tournament shuttle. The tournament doctor, Dr. Benediktsson responded rapidly and Signy was ready for play in time, posting a very fine score.

Local boy, Andri Mar took every advantage of local knowledge, scoring three consecutive birdies at 10, 11 and 12 taking his score from +1 to -2 and down to -3 at 14th, but a bogie on the 15th and three pars to finish gave him the final score of 68. One behind is Kevin Giulini at -1 (69) and two Icelanders, Runar Arnorsson and Bjarki Freyr Juliusson at level par.

Weather conditons for tomorrow are very promising and highly likely that good scores will be posted at the excellent venue, Hella Golf Course.
